Which of the following excuses do you use?
“I just don’t have any time”
“I hate how crowded the gym is”
“I just don’t know where to start”
“No matter what I do, I just can’t seem to lose weight”
Listen, I’ve used all of those and then some. The truth of the matter is – you can do ANYTHING you want in your life – if it is important enough to you. Don’t believe me? Imagine if you just found out that someone really close to you has one day to live but YOU could save them if you could buy an $100,000 medication for them. Wouldn’t you TRY? Open a go-fund me account, post on social media, raise money and ask for help!? That’s because it’s something that really matters to you!
You can do anything you in your life – if it is important enough to you.
Now, I’m not saying that working out is the same as someone losing their life – not at all! But what I demonstrating is that if you put all your focus into working out and making time for it – it will pay off. ( This also applies for anything else you want in life like career goals, personal finances, relationships, you name it!)
Being disciplined enough to have a work out routine is tough – especially after you’ve had a baby! That’s why it must become a “lifestyle”. Here I’ll show a few tips on how to develop a “A Fit Mom Life”.
To kick start the creation of that Fit Mom lifestyle you need to
1) Track your current habits
2) Replace habits
3) START
4) Visualize
5) Communicate
6) Don’t give up – ever!
1) Track your habits
First, you’ll want to see what daily habits are taking most of your time and of which can be eliminated. How much TV are you watching? Spending too much time scrolling down social media? What about other time wasters like reading negative news articles or chatting on the phone for hours about nothing? Once you know where you waste your time, you will become more aware of how these things hinder you from cultivating healthy habits like working out. We all have time to work out, if we choose it over other, less important habits.
2) Replace habits
Once you know what habits you would like do less of (or completely eliminate) you can begin scheduling in your time to work out! Want to watch TV? Turn on YouTube and watch a Pilates or yoga video instead. Want to scroll down social media? Type in #homeworkoutroutine and learn some new skills! Remember, it takes 21 days to build a new habit and the first few days are the hardest! But once you start doing it, it gets easier and easier as the days go by. Which leads me to my 3rd point:
3.) JUST START!
Just do it! I challenge you – the next time you think about working out – just do it! Anything! Whether it’s jumping jacks, push ups, crunches, Zumba, ANYTHING! There is never going to be the RIGHT TIME to start! Stop waiting around and just start moving your body. Once you create & release that energy you will see how easy it can be and how amazing you will feel afterwards. Even if it’s just 10 minutes long on the first session! At least you got it in. Remember, slow progress is STILL progress!
4) Visualize
Visualization is a technique used by many athletes when it comes to winning their games. Just begin to imagine yourself as a fit mom. Begin picturing yourself working out everyday. See yourself as a healthy person who makes healthy choices. But don’t just do this once… Do this hundreds of times throughout the day. What will happen is that you will begin to create new mental patterns in your mind and you will eventually REALLY see yourself as that person you want to become and (subconsciously) begin behaving in that manner. This has worked for me in many areas of my life. Still don’t believe me? You can even do more research about it on your own! How about that? 🙂
5) Communicate
Tell your family and close friends about how you are working out. If they’re unsupportive – don’t fret – just think about how much it really means to you. When I first started working out (before I had children), my parents actually told me that I was “working out too much”. Believe it or not – a few months later – when I looked and felt the best I had EVER FELT BEFORE – they said they were so proud of me! They probably didn’t even remember discouraging me! They also became motivated and healthier because of the change they saw in me!
The problem is that people can only give advice based on their level of perception. If they don’t work out and are out of shape – don’t expect them to be super excited for you. The reason why I’m telling you that communication is important is because you will need accountability or someone to watch the kids so you can focus. They don’t have to understand your goal, they just have to support it.
6) Don’t Give Up – EVER!
Listen, if you start working out and something gets in your way in the 3rd, 4th, or 5th day etc… it’s okay! It’s just one moment/day! Remember, you’re trying to have a fit mom LIFE, not a fit mom week or month! Start back up again! Just don’t ever give up.
You’re trying to have a fit mom LIFE, not a fit mom week or month!
Your body is your home where you will live in until you die. Make it look cute, take good care of it, keep it clean, and be extremely appreciative of it! No one will care about your physical health and wellness as much as you do! No one! Always take time to step back, readjust your goals and schedule, and get that work out in! Just don’t give up. You can always start again.
Let me know how it goes! If all else fails – JUST MOVE YOUR BODY! Period!
Love ya, girl. Gilly <3
